On April 15, the primary school Chinese class at Petar Bogdan Foreign Language High School in Montana, a teaching site affiliated with the Confucius Institute in Sofia, organized a “Spring Paper-Cutting” themed event. A Confucius Classroom Chinese language teacher and 14 primary school students participated in the activity.
At the beginning of the event, the teacher introduced traditional Chinese solar terms as a starting point, guiding students to understand the symbolic meaning of “spring” in Chinese culture. She then explained the basic techniques of paper-cutting. Under her guidance, the students progressed from paper folding and sketching to hands-on cutting, gradually completing paper-cutting works featuring the character “春” (spring) and floral designs.
The students not only actively experimented with different patterns, but also communicated with each other and shared their work during the creative process. After completing the basic designs, some students engaged in independent creation, incorporating their own imagination into their pieces, which demonstrated strong hands-on skills and distinctive creativity.
The event allowed students to experience the charm of Chinese paper-cutting art. By integrating learning with enjoyment, it sparked their interest in Chinese language and provided valuable practical experience for future teaching of related cultural content.
